Grolleau is supporting the deployment of the SNCF’s (via Synerail) GSM-R network and is therefore participating in the modernisation of its overall communication system. 

  • A component of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), 
  • Telecommunication standard for 20th European country (network opening, interoperability), 
  • Private mobile network infrastructure, RF wireless (European Train Control System (ETCS) media).

Technical specifications

GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communication Railways)

  1. Wireless/radio transmission or COM reception:  
    DATA: Control of train position & speed, VOICE : Calls 
  2. GSM-R celle, radio BTS sites (cabinets, pylons…) : 
    15000 km of rails covered including 1000 sites (annex bay 2011-2017 Grolleau), 
  3. Data transport network:  
    the Network TRANSmission serving BTS to BTS (cells/sectors-plates) & towards the core network. TRANSport network via cooper radio, optical fibre. 
  4. Base station controller (BSC): 
    Concentrator role, traffic dispatcher within the plate (between BTS cells) & towards other plates. 
  5. Core network, NSS: 
    Databases with user identity & location, Network switch for COM routing  
  6. Instant COM delivery : 
    Incoming / Outgoing on fixed infrastructure (station, control centre, operation…) & towards BSC.
