SAFETY AND STABILITY
READY-TO-USE INTEGRATED SHELTER
A fibre optic node is a concentration point in an optical fibre network. The active equipment from which the operator activates its subscribers’ accesses is installed there. To protect this equipment from harsh external factors, Grolleau offers prefabricated shelters that provide security and stability:
- Light-weight shelters made of double-skin insulated aluminium from 5 to 20 M2
- Heavy-weight shelters made of concrete, prefabricated in our plant, from 5 to 20 M2
This allows for connections from 1,000 to 4,000 subscribers. The plant rooms are made up of large shelters upstream of the shared access points (SAP cabinets), located within the city.
However, the fibre optic node shelters generally have at least two distinct spaces:
- a first space for hosting service operators (bays housing active equipment, LVGS (Low Voltage General Switchboard), air conditioning, supervision and alarm systems, etc.);
- a second space for the bays or trusses housing the cable heads of the FTTH (Fibre to the home) service network.

Proven solution
The access equipment is hosted in a space called “operator space” dedicated to the energy supply for this equipment. The optical transport fibres are connected to optical splitters in a space called the “optical transport space”.
Using Grolleau’s prefabricated shelters for fibre optic nodes, it is possible to industrialise deployment work on large-scale projects, with turnkey shelters that have been previously integrated in Grolleau’s production plant, delivered on site. Installation and commissioning therefore require little finishing work. A large range of interior and exterior layout configurations are available.
So that the shelter blends into its surroundings, Grolleau offers to customise its outer appearance, both in terms of colour and finish (e. g. wood or brick cladding). Slate or tile roofs can also be added to the shelter so that it blends even better into the landscape.
